London Nightlife Without doubt, London's club scene is the most vibrant and diverse in Europe. Not only do the city's clubs have a great mix of music, but on occasion play host to some of the world's best (and hottest new) DJs. With the resurgence of hip-hop and a whole host of new 'retro' venues, it's also ever changing, as clubs open and close with regular frequency.
London is world famous for its party vibe and non-stop nightlife. The capital is seething with after-hours drinking and dancing dens of all shapes and sizes. From the pulsating dancefloors of major nightclubs to the chilled intimacy of smaller DJ bars, London has something to offer both hardcore party animals and those looking for a quiet drink and conversation.
The City of London With its roots in mediaeval times, the City of London is the oldest local authority in England. Even the Parliament at Westminster is based on the City of London's Court of Common Council, which has been referred to as the 'Grandmother of Parliaments'.
The Square Mile is not just about business and finance. Within it are galleries, theatres, museums and concert halls to cater for all tastes. There is a wide range of sporting activity, a public leisure centre and the world-famous Barbican Centre. As well as being one of the most significant arts sponsors in the UK, the City of London owns and cares for a number of historic buildings and monuments.
The Square Mile has a long and fascinating history - the City of London itself is over 800 years old and, while fulfilling its role as a modern local authority, it respects and preserves its rich historical legacy. The ancient civic offices of the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs are still an integral part of the modern City of London, and traditions such as the Lord Mayor's Show and the Freedom of the City bring London's history to life.
