About Pole Play

"Putting the Fun back into Fitness!"

Pole Play is celebration of the art of pole dancing through the eyes of the latest generation of women. It takes the old opinion of the dance form and turns it on its head, creating a fabulous new way of keeping fit and aims at increasing the self-confidence and reducing the insecurities of every woman who passes through the doors.

Pole Play was founded by Josephine in the autumn of 2005 and she has never looked back. Having gained vast management and business experience through her previous employment she decided that working for a faceless corporation was not what she intended to do with her life. Josephine spent the first 5 years of her working life employed in the quarrying and engineering industry meaning that being told “No” was just the start of something for her. Josephine completed her studies in 2003 gaining a BEng degree in Quarrying and Road Surface Engineering which led her into a management position within a major engineering firm. During the next few years she went through many life changing moves which one day led her to the doors of an exotic dancing club in the heart of Bristol. She acquired her first taste of pole dancing through a 4 week beginner course and was hooked from that point on.

Through the course Josephine learnt and experienced many new things. It helped her with her rhythm, co-ordination and general fitness. It alleviated her depression from which she had suffered for years and led her to meeting many new friends whom she remains in touch with well after completing the course. It even led to her meeting the father of her child born June 2006 and increased her self-confidence to the point where she established her own business. In short it changed her life completely and for the better. Now I’m not saying that everyone taking part will undergo such a dramatic life transformation but having seen what can be done with a little increased self-confidence in life she wanted to pass on the whole experience to everyone she met and now she brings it to you…!

Having completed the course Josephine purchased her own pole and began learning as many new tricks as she could and also began working in various pole dancing clubs while continuing with her day job. Through the dancing clubs she gained her much valued experience in the industry and decided a year later to set up her own pole school to share all she had learnt over that time. Since then the business has required massive amounts of effort in terms of work, time and money and has involved much trial and error however all of this has led to Pole Play in the form she has achieved today. With classes now running in both the south west and north of England she intends to expand throughout the UK whilst working alongside other schools such as Poletastic, Defy Gravity and Purity Pole Dancing to bring the art of pole dancing to the world…

Instructors
All of our instructors hold current Public Liability Insurance and are either trained or in training for their ETM (Exercise To Music) or similar qualification. They all have experience of pole performance in front of audiences from club dancing to competition level and they ALL teach because they love it, not becaus ethey have to! Enthusiasm and determination are extremely important in pole dance and we wouldn't be here if we didn't put our heart and soul into performance.

Josephine is the founder of Pole Play and still continues to teach in Lincoln and Barnsley. She thoroughly enjoys the teaching side and keeps her instructors and students up to date with everything pole related from relaease of new pole technology, clothing and products through to pole jams, competitions and of course the latest "big trick"!

Robyn is the senior instructor for the South West Region and teaches from Stage 1 through to Stage 3 level in Bristol as well as covering parties around the region. She i highly acomplished and very VERY bubbly so expect to hear a good amount of laughter coming from the door of her classes! She recently took part in Pole Divas 2007 and has also participated in various other competitions around the UK.

SJ currently teaches in Wakefield and Huddersfield and also covers Pole Parties in Leeds and Barnsley. She is relatively new to teaching but has the enthusiasm of the 21 year old she is and that seems to rub off on her students! SJ recently entered the Pole Divas 2007 competition and loves performing and showing off her new tricks so expect an upbeat class in a relaxed atmosphere at her venues.
